"Everyone wants to be beautiful," you say,

Letting the words drip from the tarnished silver of your tongue

And slide down the makeup caked on your jaw

To lie in pools like nightsoil on street corners

Stiffened by winter winds and carelessness.

"You are beautiful," I say,

But the words ring a haunting hollow,

A single breath in a stillborn sea of wasted breaths,

FailureShe was the Thief Girl with no faith and half a heart, and she didn't care if they never ever saw her soul anyway. She was almost content in the half broken life she had created for herself. Her fingers were always drenched in ink, her mind was always preoccupied with her treasure. Words stolen from conversations, from homes, from mouths that didn't need to speak any more.

She found the Lost Boy somewhere in an alley of poetry and a war of lyrics, fighting for his life with a broken piano and a worn tuxedo. She stole him before the bass viols, the gleaming guitars and the thrashing drums could kill him.

He fought with her all the way, telli

Go on,
I dare you.

(You have no idea how strong I really am,
I'm built like steel
because I've always never been afraid.)

You may own my emotions in a jar,
but I'll stand strong
to be the person that you'll fear in your dreams.

because you were a devil in training,
but you've never made death look so beautiful.)

Death's Breath On A Young Neck   "Are you okay?" asked the voice from above.
"Yeah, I'm fine," replied the girl, alone and sobbing in the dark corner.
   "Are you.... Are you entirely sure of that...?"
"Yes! Now go away!" she would have screamed it, but instead she choked on her tears.
  But I'm not okay, the girl thought, and comforting hands on my shoulders mean nothing to me. That's why I continually shrug them off. Not because I am haughty, or proud, but simply because to me they are a waste of time.
   Later that evening the girl's mother entered the room, "Hello sweetheart, how are you?"

LesbianGod loved the two girls at the end of my street.

Everywhere they went, they went together,
hand-in-hand so they didn't get lost,
laughing at everything and nothing
all at once.

He was so proud of them.
They never stole, they never swore,
they brushed their teeth twice a day
and always said their prayers.

A dead girl came to my room last night
Dressed in white and cold as ice
    I gave her a smile although I was terribly scared
    I gave her a hug although we'd never met
    I gave her a kiss although we'd never loved
    I gave her time although I'd little to spare
    I gave her pennies for her eyes although I was poor
    I gave her a flower although I had no garden

A train-ride sent this banging through my head. Now it's out here instead, and I think that's better.

EDIT: Pleased though I am to have all these favs, I can't help but wonder, where the heck are they coming from? I'm not a bad writer, but I'm not THAT good. Did someone link people here?

I love this.

If I could draw, I'd draw what the dead girl looks like in my mind, but it wouldn't look good on the computer. :\ I'd have to draw it on paper, but I can't put it online after that. :\ So I guess you might never know what I think of when I read this.

It's not that you're not that good of a writer. This is just a really good piece. Short, but sweet. That's why all of us on dA fav'd it.
And let me emphasize that by saying that I just love it. It's simple, but it made me feel something. That, or heartburn just has great timing.
